Our Story
How a small cafe in Ferndale became a movement for honest, seasonal fast food.
OUR STORY
Fast food doesn't have to be bad food.
Founded in Ferndale, WA in 2019, Birdy Market Cafe was born from a simple belief: fast food doesn't have to be bad food. Our founder, Jade Alvarez, spent years working in farm-to-table restaurants and saw a gap in the market — people wanted wholesome, transparent meals they could grab in minutes, not just sit-down experiences that took an hour.
What started as a single counter in a converted hardware store has grown into five locations across Washington state. Each Birdy cafe has its own personality, but they all share the same DNA: seasonal menus built around ingredients we can trace back to the farm, allergen transparency that goes beyond the legal minimum, and a warm, unhurried atmosphere even when you're in a rush.
We partner directly with over 30 Pacific Northwest growers, fishers, and artisans. Our menu changes with the seasons because that's how food is supposed to work. When the Skagit Valley blueberries peak in July, you'll find them in our smoothie bowls. When the winter squash arrives in October, it shows up in our grain bowls and soups. We don't chase trends — we follow the land.
The name “Birdy” came from Jade's grandmother, who called every morning visitor at the kitchen window a “little birdy.” That spirit of welcoming whoever shows up — hungry, curious, or just needing a good cup of coffee — is still what drives us every day.
